Some people we talk to tell us they would ride their bicycles more but worry about keeping up, riding in groups, and especially dealing with flat tires, cars and traffic (drivers). We’d like to help by sharing our knowledge, skills and insights.
This is a weekly series of 20-25 mile Sunday morning rides for new/rusty riders focused on skills in the following areas:
- Bicycle setup and adjustment for proper fit, comfort, and efficiency,
- Having enough water and food, and the right tools for the planned ride,
- Basic home maintenance and roadside mechanicals (dealing with flats),
- Group riding standards – callouts and hand signals, positioning,
- Group riding skills – drafting & rotation, lead and tail rider responsibilities,
- Riding in traffic – knowing the rules for cycling in traffic and comfortably applying them.
Bring your road bike, city bike, mountain bike, or e-bike, a good pair of shoes, a helmet, and a desire to improve your skills.
All riders must wear an approved cycling helmet, and will be required to join our club after their first ride with us (which addresses our insurance requirements).
Start location is Cocoa Village Parking Lot in front of Cocoa City Hall. We will ride north on the River Road (Indian River Drive), then west on Canaveral Groves Blvd to Space Coast Communities Sports Complex.
Alternatively, you can drive and meet us at Space Coast Communities Sports Complex, arrival about 8:30am.
At the Complex we will ride around the perimeter road (1.25mi/2.0km), where there is very little traffic, working on various skills for up to an hour.
Following the workout we will ride back to Cocoa Village.
Your ride leaders are Jim O’Leary and Steve Kelly. We look forward to your participation.
