Ride Calendar

Join the Spacecoast Freewheelers on one of our B and C rated rides.  Our Saturday morning River Road ride is the most popular, starting with a social C pace for the first half, and a B pace for the rest.  Our longer rides are our B rated Sunday morning ride that changes start location and route every weekend per the calendar below.  Check out our ride calendar below and we hope to see you our riding with us.

Club Rides, Rules & Etiquette

First and foremost, we want to keep our rides safe; so please obey all traffic laws, and ride rules and paceline etiquette. If you’re unfamiliar with pacelines and new to our group please seek out the ride leader to get some pointers.

River Road 14-28 Combo Ride @ Lee Wenner Park
Aug 19 @ 8:00 am

This Saturday morning ride serves a combination of purposes: social reconnect after the work week, a learning session, and warmup to Sunday C and B rides*. The several Ride Leaders are recognized as wearing yellow bandanas.

Social reconnect – South River Road, 14 miles, C pace. Group will stay together usually in a double pace-line until getting back to Cocoa. D riders (with no group experience) are welcome, and should let a Ride Leader know they are participating.

Learning session, warmup for Sunday rides – North River Road, 14 miles, B pace, max 20mph. Group will stay together in double or single pace-lines; Ride Leader(s) will guide riders in fine points of cycling technique and group skills. C riders are welcome if they feel confident in riding the distance, and comfortable with riding in a group.

* The ‘A’ Extension continues another 4 miles from the north end of River Road (@ Fire station). This extension is designed to give our most skilled and strongest ‘A’ riders a venue to ride at a challenging pace, typically 23+mph. While participation here is self-selected, if the Ride Leader is not confident in a rider’s skills, he/she may ask that rider to continue back to Cocoa with the B group.

This ride ends with a social gathering (off-bike) at Ossorio’s Cafe.

Fellsmere 62 @ FRONT STREET PARK
Aug 20 @ 7:00 am

62 mile B ride. Ride Leaders are Jim O’Leary and others.

Because the ride is long and midday heat & humidity are intense, ride starts early to avoid the worst of it.

Riders are advised to bring plenty of food and water.
Rest/refuel stops at St Sebastian River Preserve SP Visitor Center (mile 24, water avbl/supply own food), and Circle K convenience store (mile 41).

6GTS – No mileage is added to this ride, but all 6GTS participants should plan to complete the full distance (62mi / 100km).

River Rd Ossorio 14/28 @ Ossorio Bakery & Cafe
Aug 20 @ 8:00 am

14-28 mile C ride. Ride leader is Patty Boatman or other.

Tuesday AM Training @ Cocoa Riverfront Park
Aug 22 @ 8:00 am

B ride, with some portions at B+ and A- pace. Routes depend on participants & wind/weather conditions. Ride Leader(s) vary.
Meet in vicinity of Village Cycle Shoppe and Ossorio Bakery & Cafe

Distances range from 45 to 65 miles (75 to 100 km). Plan accordingly with food-hydration. We usually stop somewhere midpoint for rest/refuel.

These are NOT introductory group rides; you should be completely confident riding in a group, with enough endurance to comfortably finish a 3 to 4 hour ride. You should also have no concern about fixing flats, should they happen, and carry the equipment to do so.

That said, these are “no-drop” rides: we don’t leave fellow Freewheelers behind. But you are expected to keep up and contribute to the training effort.
