Ride Calendar

Join the Spacecoast Freewheelers on one of our B and C rated rides.  Our Saturday morning River Road ride is the most popular, starting with a social C pace for the first half, and a B pace for the rest.  Our longer rides are our B rated Sunday morning ride that changes start location and route every weekend per the calendar below.  Check out our ride calendar below and we hope to see you our riding with us.

Club Rides, Rules & Etiquette

First and foremost, we want to keep our rides safe; so please obey all traffic laws, and ride rules and paceline etiquette. If you’re unfamiliar with pacelines and new to our group please seek out the ride leader to get some pointers.

Metric Century SCFW 63 @ Village Parking Lot
Feb 17 @ 7:30 am

Metric (100 km/63mi) ‘B’ ride. Ride Leaders are various.

This ride follows the route of the ICWC Metric Century. It’s for club members riding the XFL this year who need preparation miles, and/or warmup ride for participants in following week’s (Feb 24) Cycle4Alz event.

Participants should have a good foundation of miles/time in the saddle, and be completely comfortable drinking and eating while riding. We’ll take short breaks at service stations and convenience stores along the way. Along with a bit of cash, bring an extra tube/CO2 cartridge.

There is one shortcut back to Cocoa Village: Proceeding south on Tropical Trail, turn right on SR-520, head west over Hubert Humphrey Causeway Bridge, and turn into Cocoa Village to start point for total of ~42miles.

Intro Group Riding 14-29 @ Cocoa Village Parking Lot
Feb 17 @ 8:00 am

Gathering place for this ride is southwest corner of Cocoa Village Parking Lot, at Stone and Florida Ave.

14-29 mile C ride, depending on route, and how far you feel like riding. Ride leaders are Patty Boatman and/or Curtis Glenn. Rollout at 8:00am from Cocoa City Parking Lot, adjacent to Murdocks Southern Bistro.

This moderately-paced ride introduces new riders to basics of riding in a group, and sets an easier pace (average 16 mph)/lower mileage for all who participate.

River Road 14/28 route: Ride Map & Cue Sheet
Route makes a rest/restroom/refuel stop at mile 14 in Cocoa Village.

West Cocoa 29 route: Ride Map & Cue Sheet
Route has two stops for rest/restroom/refuel:
a. Junny Rios Martinez Park, Westminster Dr & 524 (mi 11.0)
b. Flying J, 524 & Friday Rd (mi 15.0)
Plus there are several places to turn back and shorten the ride (Ride Leader can advise).

Tuesday AM Training @ Cocoa Village Parking Lot
Feb 19 @ 8:00 am

B ride, with some portions at B+ and A- pace. Routes depend on participants & wind/weather conditions. Ride Leader(s) vary.
Meet in Cocoa Village Parking Lot, 98 Stone Street, just north of Cocoa City Hall, and west of Cocoa Village.

Distances range from 45 to 65 miles (75 to 100 km). Plan accordingly with food-hydration. We usually stop somewhere midpoint for rest/refuel.

These are NOT introductory group rides; you should be completely capable and confident riding in a group, with enough endurance to comfortably finish a 3 to 4 hour ride. You should also have no concern about fixing flats, should they happen, and carry the equipment to do so.

That said, these are “no-drop” rides: we don’t leave fellow Freewheelers behind. But you are expected to keep up and contribute to the training effort.
